Diana was LIFE itself!

Diana was one of a kind -- joyful, playful, loyal. She was life itself!

Her name came partly from a Roman goddess of hunting Diana, as dachshunds are a hunting breed, partly because of Princess Diana who I admired in my childhood.

I took her as a 1-month old puppy during a trying COVID year of 2020 when I decided I needed more reasons to walk and to smile) It was my first dog ever and I did everything to train and groom her properly. In my opinion, she was simply the most beautiful dachshund on Earth. She truly was. And we lived happily in Dnipro, one of the biggest cities in Ukraine.

In 2022 when Russia started a full-scale war against Ukraine I had to leave the country and go abroad. Diana stayed with a friend of mine in Ukraine. For 6 months I was phoning again and again, buying food online to ensure she was all right.

In August 2022, I had to go back home to collect her and we went through the hassle of medical records, vaccinations, crossing the borders, and going to Germany by bus for a whopping 43 hours. We did it, we made it. We were relatively safe. But that was not the end of the story.

In November 2022 I had to relocate from Germany to the UK for multiple reasons. Transferring pets, especially to Great Britain, proved to be a nightmare. So I had to find another family who could look after Diana until she could join me. In 2-month time everything seemed to be on track and Diana was supposed to come soon. But on a tragic morning of 7.01.23, a girl who was walking Diana could not hold the leash when Di dashed across the road to catch a raven.

A tragic incident and so much pain!

When I am thinking about it, I naturally ask myself: Why? Why and how did it happen to my friend and family member?
But the more I think about it, the more I realize it is not so much about a mere accident or about the girl holding the leash.
It`s just that Diana also happened to be a victim of Russian aggression that got her out of her home and her routine.
Out of her happy life.

Rest in peace, dear.
You were loved and cherished.
And you will stay in hearts and memory of people who knew and loved you forever.

Lass uns kurz im Glück verweilen, genauso wie es früher war, so kann der Schmerz ganz langsam heilen.

Trauer ist wie ein großer Felsbrocken. Wegrollen kann man ihn nicht. Zuerst versucht man, nicht darunter zu ersticken, dann hackt man ihn Stück für Stück kleiner. Und den letzten Brocken steckt man sich in die Hosentasche und trägt ihn ein Leben lang mit sich herum.
